Saddle Suction Cups
Saddle cups are clear silicone suction cups with a mounting saddle for attaching various instrumentation tags to cetaceans ranging from belugas to blue whales, such as shown below with a Cetacean Research™ GelRelease™ suction cup.

A little bit of history is that Cetacean Research™ Saddle Cups began as GelRelease™ cups. Researchers Rod Hobbs and Kim Sheldon creatively used Gummi Bears as the original release mechanism. Because the release timing is too unpredictable (despite retiring the gummi bears), the GelRelease™ cups are no longer made unless specifically requested by the researcher.
